A partnership between Nike and New York-based pioneering denim house 3×1 has resulted in the creation of a trio of Air Force Ones dressed in different denims: black, stonewash blue, and raw indigo.
For this collaboration, 3×1 has created two fabrics with Japan’s renowned Kuroki mill. Unique washes for the fabrics were developed in Los Angeles to develop three distinct looks. The raw indigo AF1 uses the back-side of the fabric on the Swoosh, heel, lace cage, and tongue for contrast.
If you look closely, you’ll notice that the left shoe of each colorway features a “Bowerman Orange” selvedge ID tag at the top of the lace cage near the tongue. This is in celebration of Nike’s co-founder, Bill Bowerman, and a reference to 3×1’s customary “selvedge reveal” on the left back pocket of their jeans.
The 3×1 x Nike AF1 collection is available May 24 on SNKRS, at select global Nike retailers, 3x1denim.com, and at 3×1 in SoHo (next door to Nike’s flagship outpost at 21 Mercer).
