New and Improved ‘Sonic The Hedgehog’ Trailer

This past summer, Paramount Pictures released their first trailer for a live-action Sonic The Hedgehog film and the response was… not good. Many people took to social media to voice their criticism of Sonic’s design. The backlash was so bad that director Jeff Fowler pushed back the release of the film to redesign the character.

Today, Paramount released the new and improved trailer and so far fans are pleased with Sonic’s new look. While the original design featured unsettling teeth and a lanky, muscular body, the updated trailer offers a look at a more friendly-eyed Sonic. The new design is more conventionally “cute” and more closely resembles the video game character.

Not only has Sonic’s design changed, the overall feel from the trailer has also improved. Sonic’s dialogue is more witty, evidenced by his introductory line, “I’m Sonic, a little ball of super energy in an extremely handsome package”, a nice little tongue-in-cheek reference to his improved design. The original trailer was completely set on Earth, while in this new one we get a look at Sonic’s world, specifically Green Hill Zone. The soundtrack is also improved,  opting for the Ramones’ “Blitzkrieg Bop” instead of the forced nostalgia of Coolio’s “Gangsta’s Paradise.”
