Puerto Rico and Air Force 1’s have gone hand-in-hand for quite some time now. The staple Nike sneaker has seen it’s share of PR theme’d Air Forces and each one seems to capture a different aspect of the island and becomes a collectors piece in their own right. The latest rendition from the Nike Sportswear camp is set to debut on June 1st and is easily the most detailed Puerto Rico based AF1 to date. The craftsmanship on this shoe is impeccable and if you didn’t know it you’d think you were looking at a Bespoke pair made especially for you. Continue reading after the jump.
The shoe starts out in the popular low-top configuration and features a white midsole along with white tumbled leather on the toe-box which adds in some perforations. We get blessed with a double-Swoosh which displays white on the outer layer but features a red underlay along with blue contrast stitching. The premium feel continues with a luxurious red leather inner liner and a blue suede toe-guard which is enhanced by a red baseball stitch pattern, a sport that the island embraces as part of its culture and is part of daily life.
The heel panel displays a lasered tribal motif which revolves around a scenic island portrayal with some artistic representations of the PR flag. The outsole is clear which also reveals another set of artwork peering through the translucent material in a blue shade. The set is finished off by green lace dubraes, an ode to the Coqui, a frog endemic to the island and a national mascot of sorts. Skim through some of the gorgeous photo set and let us know how these compare to past iterations of the shoe.
