Skate Your Shoes – The “Anti-Deadstock” Mentality

As Nike SB’s and other skate related sneakers make their way into the hypebeast/sneakerhead world, it becomes more and more apparent that the original use of these sneakers is being demeaned. Sneakerheads are known for babying their beloved kicks, cleaning them with baby wipes and tooth brushes, and, even more baffling, not wearing them at at all, while skaters will literally wear sneakers until they have holes in them, and then wear them until they full on fall apart. This makes sense in each respective context, but as Nike SB special editions and the latest and greatest looks for the Janoski line cross over from strictly skaters to sneakerheads, the tables are turned. It will be interesting to see how, in a few months for example, a pair of “Blue Digi Floral” Jano’s worn by a consummate sneakerhead looks compared to the pair belonging to a die-hard skater. Only time will tell, but it’s definitely an interesting rift. Do you think skaters are wasting kicks or are sneakerheads losing out on the joy of gettin’ down and dirty with their beloved kicks? Stay tuned for more on this subject and let us know how you feel via our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

  1. I always buy a plain pair of Janoskis to skate in, while I keep the rest of my SBs to just wear when im going out or some shit.
