You might’ve seen some of her illustrations on Instagram, and this week we’re bringing you the girl behind it all. As a sneaker illustrator, Caroll knows a thing or two about sneaker culture and design. This Netherlands-based sneakerhead is heavy on runners and Air Maxes, and you’ll see her rocking a lot of your favorite Ronnie Fieg designs (which she does 3 our of 7 days of the week here) like it’s nothing. Check out our interview below to see her entire rotation and to learn more about her work.

MN: What kind of shoes are you drawn to mostly? What makes you like a particular type of shoe? I see that you wear a lot of runners and older styles and retros updated with collabs and new colorways…
CB: Colorway and shape are what make me fall in love with the shoe. I loved the old shape of the AM1–I wish we still had that one. I only own two pairs with the old shape, and it’s hard to find DS in my size. So I’m happy with everything that I can get right now, but it’s still really difficult when I want to buy a shoe. I fell in love with collabs when I saw the first collab of Patta and Nike AM1–no one can ever top that.

MN: What kind of shoes do you choose to illustrate?
CB: When I first started illustrating my, I decided to illustrate all the shoes I owned or wanted to own. When I feel frustrated I work on shoes that are new or will be released soon, just for my followers. At that moment it’s “hyped up” so people love to see that. Even with requests–sometimes I don’t even like the shoe. I once had a request for a Kobe. After finishing the illustration, I got so many positive comments, and I started to draw more shoes that I don’t personally like. In some kind of way I have little magic hands.

MN: Do you work on any other designs besides shoes?
CB: Lately I’ve been doing other things as well. My girl wanted to start her own clothing line. It’s called: “Onatah,” which means “Of the earth.” She asked me if I wanted to be her partner on this, I said yes and we got engaged [laughs]. No, joking. Anyway, I was really excited when she asked me and we work on this together now. Having our
focus on biological fabrics and our prints always have an “earth” touch.

MN: As a person focused on design, what do you think is the most well-designed shoe out there (both performance and style wise)?
CB: I would never try to think of that, it is way too hard…but if I really have to choose I would say that the black version of the Nike Air Yeezy 2 is by far the most amazing shoe at this very moment. I wanted to say Nike Air Max 1 but just as everyone knows, these are essentials and you can buy it at every sneaker store in Holland. This Yeezy–the shape, the color, the fabric, the design. It’s just everything. And I can’t really explain how I feel about it.

MN: What is the craziest thing you’ve done for a pair of sneakers?
CB: I just did that a few months ago, when Ronnie Fieg was going to release the Puma Disc Blaze “COA” at the Kith Pop Up store in Paris. I had to make sure I was able to get my pair. You needed a ticket for the shoe and I was really lucky to be able to get one. I left Holland on Saturday morning, went to the Kith store right after arriving in Paris, and I finally met Ronnie in person, along with a lot of really met a lot of nice and sweet people. I left the same night after getting my shoes–I was in Paris for only 5 hours, spent like 300 euros to get there but it was the best thing I did so far! I’m still really happy with my baby pair of COA’s and can’t thank RF and his team enough.

MN: What pairs are you looking to add to your collection?
CB: I do own my favorites already but I still need a AM1 BRS, the Sneakerfreaker x Puma Blaze of Glory Black Beasts (crazy ass shoe), Asics x RF Miamis and I think this is it..

CARA_SAT1Saturday in Jordan XI “Gamma Blue”

MN: How did you first get interested in sneakers?
CB: My first sneaker ever was the Adidas Superstar. My cousin gave me those as a present. He wanted a sweet little girl with the same pair and he didn’t have a girlfriend so I was the only one who could walk next to him with the same pair. I was only 8 back then. That’s where it started. I got my first Nikes when I turned 10. Later, my grandparents bought me some Dunks, can’t even remember the name. Since 2003, I started walking with Air. My love for Air Max 1 started when I found my WMNS Sport Royal Blue at Patta. They are beaters now but a DS pair is waiting for me in NYC.
