In a fitting nod of respect to the Matriarch of Marshall High School herself, Nike is releasing a new “Dorothy Gaters” colorway of the Blazer Mid this Thursday.
In her 44 year career, Gaters has led her Lady Commandos to 1,131 victories and nine state championships. The legendary Chicago basketball coach keeps a competitive atmosphere to keep her girls on edge at all times. She was an assistant coach at the U.S. Olympic Festival in 1986 and named Coach of the Year by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association seven times.
The women’s Blazer Mid is dripping in school spirit, dressed in Marshall High School’s school colors: Black, Team Red, University Gold, and Flax. It comes constructed from a mix of leather and suede with the gold serving as an accent on the Swoosh, the heel, inner tongue, and lace tabs. Gold, black, and burgundy are swapped throughout the shoe in different overlays. To round off the homage, a varsity-style “20” is stitched on the heel and a gold piece of hardware can be found on the laces.
