NBA’s 2014 All-Star Game is scheduled to take place in New Orleans on Feburary 16th, and we’ve teamed up with UK-based graphic designer Commonlight for a huge feature documenting the East-West Starting 5 sneakers and Slam Dunk Contest Winners through his original illustrations. Sure, this year’s dope lineup of ASG Sneakers deserve their shine, but let’s not forget where it all started. The exclusive Modern Notoriety x Commonlight visual documentary begins at 1994 and ends at 2014, documenting the past 20 years in NBA All-Star Game sneaker history.

Everyday from now until NBA All-Star Weekend kicks off, we’ll be posting daily illustrations showcasing some of the most iconic sneakers worn by even more legendary players. Each day you’ll view highlights of that particular year with images featuring an original illustration of the shoe, the brand and model of the shoe, along with the starting player who wore that special piece. You can call this class Fundamentals of ASG Sneaker Game 101.

We taking it all the way back to 1995, where the All-Star Game took place in Phoenix, Arizona. The West All-Stars won this one, scoring 139-112 and were led by MVP Mitch Richmond of the Sacramento Kings. Ritchmond’s Western squad was made up of legends like Charles Barkley, Hakeem Olajuwon, Latrell Sprewell, Gary Payton, David Robinson, Dikembe Mutombo, and Karl Malone. The Eastern team featured greats such as 1994 MVP Scottie Pippen, Grant Hill, SHAQ (yep, used the one-namer there), Reggie Miller, Patrick Ewing, and Larry Johnson. Peep the shoes that they wore during this historical game and tag your IG/Twitter photos with #MNAllStars if you own any of the pairs featured for a chance to win a limited edition print featuring these illustrations.
