Beloved NYC streetwear house NOAH has teamed up with adidas to combine their shared love for the oceans to create an expansive collection that encompasses both lifestyle and sport.
The inspiration from the collection comes from ex-Supreme director and NOAH founder Brandon Babenzien’s beachgoing memories from his upbringing in Long Island. On this, Babenzien noted:
“The water and the ocean were the backdrop for everything where I grew up. We always found ourselves on the water in one way or another…Now that I am an adult with the ability to see the damage we’ve been doing to the environment and bodies of water in particular, I am in a position to try to correct some of that damage.”
The collection makes significant use of sustainable materials and manufacturing techniques, something very much in line with Noah’s anti-consumerist ethos and adidas’ history with Parley Ocean Plastic. Accordingly, both footwear models in the collection feature Primeblue, a “high-performance recycled material made in part with Parley Ocean Plastic—upcycled plastic waste, intercepted on remote island, beaches, coastal communities and shorelines, preventing it from polluting our ocean.
The lifestyle side of the collection features Noah’s take on two classic colorways of the adidas heritage runner, the SL72. Apparel-wise, the lifestyle division of the collaboration showcases Noah-designed adidas trefoil-branded pieces–including a French terry crewneck, sweatshirt, tee, and shorts—that were all created using at least 30% recycled materials. This group of pieces makes significant use of a seashell graphic motif and includes a pack of co-branded socks and a shoulder back.
The performance side of the collection features sustainably-created gear suited for any oceanside run. Encompassing a running jacket, a pair of running shorts, and a running cap, the adidas Originals by NOAH performance apparel features a unique madras print and is made from 100% recycled polyester. As far as footwear goes, this part of the collaboration offers an all new modern performance reinterpretation of the SL72 that’s dubbed the SL20. The two pairs feature similar colorways seen on the collection’s SL72s, and are created from a knitted upper comprised of 82% Primeblue.
The adidas Originals by Noah collection launches globally on August 27th, 2020 via adidas.com, while the North American release will launch via the revamped adidas Confirmed platform. You can take a look at campaign and product shots of the collection down below in preparation for the drop.
