In a special release commemorating the Chinese Zodiac, adidas Originals has created the ‘Year of the Rooster’ footwear pack, celebrating 2017’s Zodiac animal across five iconic adidas silhouettes.
Eschewing the traditional red & gold color scheme that often accompanies Chinese New Year releases, the Year of the Rooster pack channels the spirit of the animal through a unique material make-up and subtle cultural details throughout.
Comprising the Superstar 80s, Stan Smith, Superstar Slip-On, Tubular Radial and EQT Support UltraBOOST silhouettes, each shoe features a premium leather construction, overlaid with a unique leather which has been treated to imitate the texture of features. Inspired by the traditional Chinese board game Mahjong, each shoe has been finished with an embroidered rooster graphic imitating the illustrations of a Mahjong tile along with a Mahjong tile hangtag and printed inner sockliner.
Taking one step further beyond the all-black color palette of the other shoes in the pack, the EQT Support UltraBOOST forms the headline release of the pack, decked out in an all-over white color scheme and presented in an exclusive wooden box that highlights the shoe’s Year of the Rooster & Mahjong references. The result is a release that culminates as a celebration of Chinese tradition and a tribute to the spirit of 2017.
