Original Story (09/22/20): NYC streetwear titans Aimé Leon Dore have repeatedly and emphatically proved their footwear prowess with their previous New Balance collaborations. Recently, however, the brand took to Instagram to tease an all-new New Balance 550 using an NYC youth basketball team.

The promo shot showcases Team SONNY, a boys’ basketball team lead by former NBA star Kenny Satterfield, wearing what appears to be three different styles of the upcoming shoe. Each colorway uses tasteful and classic colorblocking, and the trio is comprised of a navy/white pair, a grey/white pair, and a dark green/white pair. The official photo also appears to feature a set of ALD x New Balance apparel and basketball gear in both navy and dark green. Additionally, ALD’s Teddy Santis has been spotted wearing a co-branded red pair, but since this wasn’t part of the initial photo, it’s currently unclear whether or not this pair will be part of the wide release.

New Balance hasn’t released a 550 in quite some time, though the model appears to echo 1989’s New Balance 550 Low (a classic basketball sneaker). You can check out the promo shot (as well as the mysterious red pair) down below. A release of is rumored for October, so expect updates on the Aimé Leon Dore x New Balance 550 to arrive very soon.

Update (10/01/20): Aimé Leon Dore has officially announced the release date for its collaboration with New Balance on the P550 Basketball Oxford. The reintroduction of the 1989 silhouette will occur on October 9th in four colorways, shown below. Sign up to ALD’s mailing list for more info.
