Original Story (03/25/21): New Balance re-introduced its classic 550 basketball oxford model last year with a collaboration with Aimé Leon Dore. The collab was rather successful as the silhouette has remained popular since its relaunch, with even its general release colorways selling out quickly. Aimé Leon Dore and New Balance will soon be following up their 550 launch colorways with more offerings in the Spring 2021 season.
Today, ALD’s Teddy Santis give us our best look yet at an upcoming colorway of the ALD x New Balance 550. Similar to the styles that released last October, the shoe comes in a sail-based color scheme, though this time yellowed accents appear on the N logos as well as the midsole giving it an even more aged look. This upcoming colorway features forest green accents near the ankle collar, on the tongue, on the heel branding, and a section of the midsole.
This colorway was heavily featured in ALD’s SS21 “The World’s Borough” lookbook, though there may be other offerings in the works as well. Earlier this year, Teddy Santis teased via Instagram story of what appears to be a sample ALD x New Balance 550 dressed in burgundy suede. Santis has also hinted at a collaboration on the high-top 650 model.

Update (04/08/21): Aimé Leon Dore has announced the release of its Spring 2021 New Balance 550s. Two colorways will be offered this time around: white/cream/green and white/red/navy. Catch them on April 16th on the Aimé Leon Dore website. Expect the release to include matching ALD x New Balance apparel. Subscribe to the ALD mailing list for more info.
