When the Air Jordan 8 first released in 1993, it was a turning point in Jordan Brand’s design identity. Straying away from the sleeker form of the AJ 7, the AJ 8 sported a chunkier look with support straps seen on other Nike models of the era, such as the Air Raid and Air Max CB. The somewhat polarizing silhouette would eventually become a zeitgeist of the ’90s with its one-of-a-kind design pattern while being Michael Jordan’s weapon of choice defeating the Suns in the ’93 NBA Finals.
The Air Jordan 8 has made a big return in 2022 with Rui Hachimura’s modern take in the “Black Samurai” pack. Another upcoming iteration is the Women’s Air Jordan 8 “Taxi” colorway, which sports a black leather upper with Opti Yellow and Taxi yellow accents on the TPU heel overlay. The chenille tongue logo adds another burst of yellow, as does the midsole. Rounding out the design is a black outsole grip with the iconic polycarbonate shank plate featuring the AJ 8’s unique pattern underfoot.
