Nike has been hard at work in developing the Air Jordan XXXVII, the 37th installment in the Air Jordan performance basketball footwear line.

Pulling data from Nike’s Sport Research Lab (NSRL), the Air Jordan 37 is built for multidirectional play, while its components are rooted in NSRL’s study of the three phases of jumping: crash, load, and launch. The heel features a TPU mold-encasing responsive Formula 23 foam, which acts as a crash-landing pad for all the energy striking down into the floor. Formula 23 is designed to be lightweight and responsive, and is also one of the most sustainable performance foams made by Nike. The load phase is aided by a carbon fiber midfoot shank, which transfers motion from the heel through the midfoot, while the launch phase is set up by the Zoom Air strobel unit with the additional forefoot unit for a double-stacked pop off the pad off the foot.

The upper is made with Lenoweave and uses a yarn called Arkema, a monofilament variety that is both strong and pliable. The design of the Lenoweave pattern is inspired by the Air Jordan 7 and the hand-shaped craftsmanship of West African basket weaving. The zones of support in the upper are modeled after the configuration of sandal straps and ankle tape. By strategically limiting zones of support to only where they’re needed, the AJ37 employs a design philosophy of layered reduction while adding to the handmade character of the shoe’s design.

The Air Jordan 37 will launch in the “Beyond Borders” colorway this September on nike.com and at select retailers. The “Hare” colorway will release later in fall 2022. Check out both pairs below.
