Launched in July 2019, the Instagram account @aplasticplant has amassed 379,000 followers, with some notable fans including Jerry Lorenzo, Tom Sachs, and Zack Bia. What separates this account from other “mood board” and “archive pages” out there is the sense of community and the positive vibes spread within the comments of each post.
Aplasticplant is now hosting its first ever pop-up experience, going down this weekend in Chicago. Plant has teamed up with luxury boutique SVRN, which recently reopened after a million dollar remodeling project. The two came together through their mutual love for forging a community based on culture: fashion, art, music, and design.
The aplasticplant x SVRN pop-up will have a floral theme, serving as a reminder for everyone to keep breathing because “the plants need it.” It will include an outdoor flower installation reminiscent of a Parisian street flower shop, complete with special branding and designs. The interior will also be decorated with an abundance of flowers, both dry and living, providing a stark contrast to the dark gray volcanic rocks and synthetic materials that make up the SVRN architecture.
Together, Aplasticplant and SVRN have designed a collaborative t-shirt and tote bag that embodies the floral theme of the pop-up shop. Aplasticplant’s own t-shirts and hoodies will be available, including a blue colorway of the “Lungs” tee, which features puff print on the back that reads “when you feel useless, just remember you breathe out carbon dioxide for plants.” This is the same positive message that is found on aplasticplant’s IG bio. A couple of the designs pay homage specifically to Chicago, such as the street sign hoodie and Cloud Gate tee.
SVRN and aplasticplant will also have flower bouquets for sale, with all profits benefiting Mental Health America. The overall goal of the pop-up is to spread good energy and light, as flowers naturally put a smile on people’s faces. Speaking of faces, don’t expect to see the face of aplasticplant’s curator at the event, as he will likely be covering his face with his signature plant mask.
The aplasticplant x SVRN pop-up will be open on Saturday, October 15th from 11am to 7pm and Sunday, October 16th from 11am to 5pm. SVRN is located at 171 N Aberdeen St in Chicago’s West Loop neighborhood. Check out the preview of the merch below.
