Artist Bryant Giles Gets His Own New Balance 2002R

Multi-disciplinary artist Bryant Giles is New Balance’s latest collaborator, linking up with the brand to offer his unique take on the 2002R and the 2002R Mule.

The Chicago native, now LA-based artist’s 2002R comes equipped with a drab olive green canvas upper embellished with embroidered artwork of eyes, lips, noses, and the sun. We also see the words “what now?” on the heels, though they are obscured by pink and green embroidery of two bottom halves of a face. “what now?” is the name of Giles’ latest collection of work, which was debuted last December at a Jeffrey Deitch group show at Art Basel in Miami Beach. Other special features include a removable Velcro N logo on the lateral side panel and additional artwork printed on the graphic insoles.

Giles has also designed a Slip-On version in an off-white hue which he calls “The Artist’s Shoe.” What began as a practical approach to studio workwear, Giles found himself wearing New Balances to paint for over three years which led to the idea of a slip-on shoe for ultimate comfort and ease during long studio hours.

The Bryant Giles x New Balance 2002R pack drops on July 11th on GoneHomme.com, followed by a global release on July 21st at NewBalance.com and select retailers. Check out both pairs, the campaign imagery, and the accompanying “What Now” short film below.
