Following the release of their Tokyo Design Studio R_C2, Japanese label AURALEE and New Balance are set to release their next collaboration, a sophisticated take on the 550 basketball oxford silhouette.
The New Balance 550, originally introduced in 1989, has been a popular model since its re-introduction in 2020 due to its now-vintage aesthetic. AURALEE builds on this and incorporates their understated and premium approach to design, dressing the model in premium leather in an off-white “Pistachio Ecru” hue. The tongue, which normally features a tag with a basketball pattern graphic logo, is changed to a plain piece of leather to give a more minimal and clean impression.
The AURALEE x New Balance 550 launches on July 16th in Japan via AURALEE’s website, New Balance JP, New Balance T-HOUSE, and New Balance Roppongi. A wider release outside of Japan is slated for July 26th on END. and other select retailers.
