adidas Skateboarding Pro team skater and London native Blondey McCoy has officially announced the release of his A.B. Gazelle Indoor along with an apparel collection.
First previewed by Blondey back in January, the adidas A.B. Gazelle Indoor is an amalgamation of different silhouettes such as the Indoor Super and Blondey’s own Superstar collab. Taking bits and pieces of each silhouette’s design DNA, adidas and Blondey create a skate shoe that embodies performance, ’80s football, and terrace fashion.
The A.B. Gazelle by Blondey is launching in a black colorway with gum soles and a “Miner Blue” colorway with black accents. Uppers are made of a heavy ripstop material and feature a T-toe design pulled from the Blondey Superstar, while the tooling is pulled from the ’80s Indoor Super. Other details include a transparent TPU eyestay and nubuck heel tab, an Ortholite sock liner, a slightly translucent sole, and “Blondey” in signature foiling on the side panel.
“A lot of people think that us skaters shouldn’t be interested in anything other than skating … I don’t feel that way,” says Blondey. “All of my favorite skaters have borrowed from other sports and cultures—Mark Gonzales in his fencing shoes, for example. I’m more interested in making the Gazelle, an indoor football shoe, skateable than I am in making skate shoes. That’s why I skate for adidas.”
On the apparel side, the collection offers a reflective silver A.B. Jousting Jacket inspired by a vintage piece from Blondey’s own closet. Continuing the ’80s terrace wear theme, the collection also features a sherpa crew sweater along with matching sherpa shorts. Rounding out the apparel is an acid yellow mock-neck sweater embellished with outline stitching of the Thames river, plus matching co-branded socks.
The Blondey x adidas A.B. Gazelle Indoor in the black/grey colorway is set to release on March 30th exclusively on Blondey’s Thames website, with a wider release following on April 2nd via adidas.com and select skate shops. The “Miner Blue” colorway and apparel collection is set to release on April 20th via Thames with a wider release on April 22nd. Retail for the collection ranges from $15-$170 USD.
