Concepts and ASICS are diving into the world of Japanese restaurant culture with their latest apparel and footwear endeavor. Complete with an ASICS Gel-Lyte III “Otoro” and “Four Days” apparel collection, the duo is sharing their appreciation for Japanese Tuna, fine dining, and the Michelin Guide.
Bluefin Tuna, the inspiration for the aforementioned footwear, has a piece of belly fat named Otoro. Once an ignored or heavily soy-marinated piece of fish, the Bluefin Tuna and its Otoro are now used by Michelin-star chefs for premium sashimi (New England’s lobster shared a similar fate). The shoe recruits a pigskin suede to the upper, dressed in pink hues that match the raw fish dish. Sushi details continue with the reflective 3M sushi knife inspirations and green laces that resemble wasabi. Concepts slaps its logo on the lateral heel while the insole graphics pay homage to the Bluefin Tuna.
This name of the “Four Days” apparel collection refers to the tuna preparation method known as “shibi,” where it is buried in the ground for four days. Hoodies, crewnecks, t-shirts, shorts, sweatpants, socks and a bucket hat come dressed in a color palette informed by tuna, wasabi, and steel. Concepts logos come printed in a script pulled from the Michelin Guide. To add a bit of the Concepts signature, each piece features hits of ’90s skate styles such as a drop shoulder in the hoodie and cotton compositions for a relaxed fit. Nylon and mesh also make an appearance in the shorts to add some flexibility. The tuna even appears on some of the tees in a rubber embellishment overlay.
