Converse Launching Basquiat Footwear & Apparel Collection

1

By now, the works of the late and great Jean-Michel Basquiat have graced nearly every medium possible, extending far past his concrete and textile canvases. Now, his pieces are featured on a new Converse collection, complete with three footwear silhouettes and apparel.

Comprised of the Converse Skidgrip, Chuck 70 and Chuck Taylor All Star, the collection draws upon three of Basquiat’s most recognized pieces. Kings of Egypt II, Kings of Egypt III and Pez Dispenser are spread among the three sneakers. The Skidgrip showcases Kings of Egypt II, with an explosion of abstract text and distorted iconography across the shoe. The Chuck 70 features Kings of Egypt III, elevated through suede and canvas uppers. Screen-printing techniques are matched with embroidery for even more detail. Pez Dispenser finds its home on the Chuck Taylor All Star. The dinosaur sits on the ankle, again using the techniques of the Chuck 70.

Launching alongside the three silhouettes is the customizable Basquiat x Converse Chuck Taylor All Star by You, which allows you to mix and match canvas colors, crown patterns, and more to create your own masterpiece. Apparel in the collection includes a black Kings Of Egypt III tee, a Pez Dispenser tee available in black and white, and a black fleece pullover crewneck.

The Basquiat x Converse collection launches September 16th on theĀ Converse website (10am ET) and select retailers. The footwear is available early on Urban Outfitters.
