Downtown LA is the muse for an upcoming merger of basketball and skate culture, the Converse x ROKIT collection. The three-piece capsule includes a pair of Chuck 70s, a hoodie, and reflective utility vest.
“The idea of it originally being a basketball shoe and now being more of a cultural icon says a lot — and that magic of being able to exist in seemingly different spaces is very much in line with the spirit we capture with ROKIT,” explains Bam Barcena, co-founder of the Flower District streetwear label.
The shoe evokes familiar feelings of asphalt and blacktop that cover the streets of Downtown Los Angeles, a surface loved by both skaters and hoopers alike. The All-Star logo is eclipsed in black fabric, sewn onto canvas that is divided into quarters through tonal stitching.
The hoodie and utility vest play host to color choices and detailing that are essential parts of the ROKIT brand. Reflective prints are used on both pieces. Leopard print and numerous pockets are seen on the utility vest along with the phrases “product of true stories” and “there’s no stopping us now.”
RAYSCORRUPTEDMIND was tapped to direct the collection’s campaign video, entitled “Home is Where The Start Is” with features from Burberry Erry, Nico Guardalabene, Tommy Genesis, Reese La Flare, Evan Mock, and Luka Sabbat.
