Disney Begins Construction on Marvel Theme Park Expansion

According to recently approved permits in Anaheim, California, Disney will be creating a new Marvel expansion at their Disneyland California Adventures amusement park. The expansion will replace the A Bug’s Life attraction “A Bug’s Land”. The area is already blocked off with fences that have the Stark Industries logo on it.

This expansion comes after the widely popular and successful opening of their “Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge” attraction and the last Avengers movie being a box office hit. According to the permits filed, it appears as if the new addition will have a character meet-and-greet area, a microbrewery, and a 2071-square-foot merchandise outlet.

The California expansion will be interconnected with Marvel theme parks in Paris and Hong Kong, described by Disney as a global “Avengers Initiative,”. Unfortunately, due to licensing deals made with Disney’s biggest amusement park competitor, Universal Studios, Disney isn’t permitted to use certain Marvel characters or even use the Marvel name for the new expansion. More information will be given at Disney’s “D23 Expo” in August.
