When Nike and Jordan Brand asked Chicagoans what brings their city together, they received a couple key answers. One of them was basketball. The historic six-championship run by Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls inspired 90’s kids throughout the city to practice their jumpshots, free throws, and crossovers.

Another resounding answer was the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) ‘L’ train system. The eight train lines literally unite Chicagoans by giving them an easy way to commute between the North Side, South Side, West Side, The Loop, and some of the city’s surrounding suburbs.

With those two answers in mind, Jordan Brand hatched up the 8×8 Collection. Eight collaborators from the Chicago creative community were selected for the collection, each using a CTA train line color to paint a picture of their neighborhoods and showcase what “Unite” means to them.

Graffiti style graphics are inspired by the art seen while riding the L.

Orange: The Cody Hudson 8×8 Collection

Founder of the design studio Struggle, Inc., Cody Hudson is known for his effortless way with motion-inspired graphics. Dressed in an orange tie dye, Hudson’s 8×8 hoodie and long sleeve tee feature the Chicago six-point star in his own signature style.

Brown: The Drew The Barber 8×8 Collection

Drew Henderson already keeps the city (and NBA stars) fresh with his cuts. Along with his recently released Nike AF1 All For 1 – Chicago, the No Cuts, No Glory founder will now be keeping the streets fresh with an 8×8 hoodie and long sleeve tee. The latter features a design inspired by old school CTA tokens, which were used to pay for train fare from 1950 to 1999 before switching to magnetic strip cards, which have since been replaced by Ventra cards.

Pink: The Lyrical Lemonade 8×8 Collection

23-year-old videographer Cole Bennett started Lyrical Lemonade when he was in high school, first as a blog to cover Chicago’s emerging hip-hop talent. Since then, it’s grown into something much greater — a one-stop shop for music videos, concerts, clothes, and actual lemonade. Add sneakers to that list, as their 8×8 collection includes the newly-introduced Jordan Aerospace 720.

The compass logo also appears on the soles of the SocialWorks Air Jordan 1 KO, along with a map of Chicago’s neighborhoods.
