13-year-old Jordan Carranza has joined the exclusive ranks of people who have designed their own Jordan shoe thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Carranza, who is diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), first connected with the Jordan Brand design team in late July. Before the first meeting, he already had a sketch of the shoe he wanted to make, his own take on the Air Jordan 1.
The result is an Air Jordan 1 FlyEase PE, equipped with Nike’s ease-of-entry technology and dressed in a classic white, blue, and black color scheme. Carranza and Jordan Brand came together to create a special logo that incorporates a wheelchair and the Jordan Wings, found on the lateral heel, the icy translucent outsole, one of the tongues, and as a pattern on the sockliner. “JC,” Carranza’s initials, are found on the other tongue and as part of the Wings logo on the ankle. Lastly, the insoles on the shoe feature a handwritten message from Carranza, which reads “Just because you’re disabled doesn’t mean that your dream can’t come true.”
