Ye Holds Runway Show in Paris for YZYSZN9

Ye, the artist fka Kanye West, took to Champs-Élysées today to present the YEEZY Season 9 runway show during Paris Fashion Week.

Stylized as YZYSZN9, the show kicked off with Ye himself delivering a monologue that touched on various topics, such as his recent falling out with Gap and the criticisms he received for the late start of the YEEZY Season 4 show. This was followed by a children’s choir coming out and chanting “Good morning Donda” before breaking into an interpolation of Ye’s “Good Morning,” “True Love,” and other Sunday Service gospel songs. The choir, featuring Ye’s daughters North West, continued throughout the show as the models walked down the runway.

Always a master of controversy, Ye wore a black shirt that read “White Lives Matter” on the back in large letters. The front of the shirt features a graphic pulled from an existing vintage tee of the late Pope John Paul II (Juan Pablo II) alongside the phrase “Seguiremos Tu Ejemplo,” which translates to “We’ll follow your example.” A couple of the models also walked down the runway wearing versions of this shirt.

Ye’s YZYSZN9 runway show was created in collaboration with Shayne Oliver, the co-founder and design director of Hood By Air. While the show took place during Paris Fashion Week, it was not officially placed on the PFW calendar and only 50 people were reportedly invited, making this the most exclusive YEEZY runway show yet. Attendees included the likes of Anna Wintour and A$AP Bari, while models included Naomi Campbell, Michele Lamy, and Matthew M. Williams.
