Kim Jones Debuts His First Collection with Converse

Following the release of his Nike Air Max 95 collaboration, Dior Homme Creative Director Kim Jones is taking on the Chuck 70 for his debut collaboration with Converse. Jones seeks to combine streetwear in the U.K., 90’s style, and outdoor utility in this eight-piece capsule collection.

Kim Jones’ high-fashion, contemporary vision is displayed in the Converse Chuck 70 in two tonal colorways, ivory, and black. The prolific designer enhances the silhouette with utilitarian elements to create subtle but eye-catching updates to the classic pair, displayed in the refined 12 oz. canvas upper and surrounding protective transparent TPU cage. Commenting on this artistic choice, Jones says, “the design approach for the shoe was very straight forward — taking a classic shoe and then almost encasing it in something to protect it.” Jones also takes into account feature enhancements, such as extra stability and heightened traction, through refining the cage and re-engineering the diamond grid outsole. Completing the pair is Kim Jones branding, stamped on the tongue and sockliner.

The apparel side of the collaborative capsule offers a parka, crewneck sweatshirt, cargo pants, and t-shirt. All of these pieces have been designed with modernity and function in mind, seen in the mesh and nylon construction of the Parka, as well as its storm flaps and rear Velcro venting. Cotton and mesh make up the cargo pants to ensure breathability, while brushed-back Terry cotton and herringbone trimming are featured on the crewneck.
