Kith’s BHM Artist Series Features SUPERWAXX & More

0

Last month, Kith announced a series of diversity and inclusion initiatives for 2021, including plans to shine light on independent Black artists with various releases throughout February for Black History Month. The first of these releases has been unveiled, an Artist Series capsule featuring three Black artists, each reimagining the classic Kith logo in their own signature way. The capsule features the works of Minneapolis-based Shaina McCoy, Maryland’s Marcus J. Brutus, and Los-Angeles based artist SUPERWAXX. Throughout the week, Kith will highlight each artist’s work and share their experiences and perspectives, starting with a SUPERWAXX.

The capsule will feature a t-shirt and crewneck inspired by SUPERWAXX’s eye-catching signature style. In a Kith interview, SUPERWAXX explains the inspiration behind the neutral-toned flowers, “I wanted to use the colors of people’s skin versus just using pinks and purples and blues. I wanted to think of it in a way where what if we ourselves were flowers in this world… thinking specifically about us Black people in this world as flowers or in a garden.” Read more of the interview here.

The two Kith x SUPERWAXX tees will be available on February 8th alongside the works made in collaboration with Shaina McCoy and Marcus J. Brutus. The Black LS Tee will be available via Kith.com and Kith stores, however, the White SS Tee will be exclusive to Kith storefronts only. 50% of the proceeds from these sales will go to the respective artist. Check out the SUPERWAXX pieces below and stay tuned to Kith’s socials to learn more about the other two artists involved.
