Vans Skateboarding kicks off Women’s History Month with a bit of women’s history of its own. Introducing The Lizzie, the first signature shoe from pro skater Lizzie Armanto.

Lizzie Armanto is one of the best female skaters in the game. She took first place in the World Cup of Skateboarding in 2010, 2011 and 2012, and also competed in Tokyo 2020 as part of the Olympics’ first ever skateboarding competition. A true trailblazer, her storied career includes many other firsts — like the first woman to grace TransWorld SKATEboarding’s magazine cover the first to complete Tony Hawk’s 360 Loop ramp.

The Lizzie marks Vans’ first signature skateboarding shoe designed by a woman in 20 years. Using 3D scans of Lizzie’s feet, the composition of the shoe is completely custom-tailored. This includes a slimmer fit, a leaner sole, and a lower profile for a closer connection to the board and improved flexibility. Other features include EcoCush™ cushioning, a new 3D Embossed DURACAP™ toe and Sidestripe, and an all-new micro-waffle tread.

“I really enjoyed the process of creating a shoe from the ground up,” says Lizzie. “I felt compelled to make a shoe that is simple, functional, feels good on your feet and has a bit of soul, and feel proud of what we were able to accomplish.”

Because Lizzie is also passionate about preserving our planet, her signature shoe has been designed and engineered to have a reduced carbon footprint compared to Vans’ canvas shoes. With a Vans VR3 Checkerboard Globe designation, The Lizzie will always be made in part with organic cotton, natural rubber, and biobased foam. For its debut, The Lizzie also utilizes suede across the entire shoe sourced from Leather Working Group (LWG) tanneries that have been rated gold or silver for environmental responsibility.

“I feel very connected to nature, and I’m stoked that my shoe could bring me even closer to it,” says Lizzie. “I knew from the very beginning that I wanted to include sustainable materials and practices as much as possible throughout the entire process. It means a lot to me that Vans’ design team went the extra mile to make this happen.”

Along with The Lizzie, Vans and Lizzie Armanto also collaborated on a head-to-toe assortment of apparel and accessories. The collection includes workwear-inspired staples like khaki vests and chinos, as well as a knit tank in black, a striped mini tee, a bucket hat, crew socks, and a waistpack. The citrus and botanical details on the apparel match the graphics found on the shoe’s interior lining.

The Lizzie and Vans x Lizzie Armanto collection will be available beginning March 10th at Vans Skateboarding retailers and at Vans.com/Skateboarding.
