This weekend news broke that Lonzo Ball’s family friend and business partner had been stealing money from the Lakers’s star to the tune of 1.5 million. Lonzo recently released a statement on the subject:

“[He] used his access to my business and personal finances to enrich himself. As a result, I have decided to sever all ties with Alan [Foster], effective immediately.”

Alan Foster is/was a minority owner in the Ball Family’s shoe business, Big Baller Brand; and is described as a family friend with longstanding ties to Lavar Ball. To the surprise of many Lonzo appears to be leaving Big Baller Brand completely in the wake of these events.

On Saturday Lonzo Ball posted this to his IG page:

The quote from the post comes from a recent Nike campaign; but the most telling aspect of the post comes from the caption – #MyOwnMan.

Hashtags speak a thousand words and if Lonzo’s being literal then it looks like “#MyOnMan” means he’s breaking out from the family brand to pursue his own interests with Nike.

For the last two seasons Lonzo has rocked with Big Baller Brand on-court, but it’s not unheard of to see the Lakers’s guard rock Nikes. We should note that ‘Zo wore adidas while playing college ball for UCLA even though it looks like his intentions are to sign with the Swoosh.

We’ll have to wait and see how everything plays out; in the meantime peep some pics of Lonzo rockin’ Nikes. What do you think of the situation? Feel bad for Lonzo? Is the switch a good move? Tell us in the comments section below!
