Maison Margiela x Reebok “Memory Of” Collection

The ongoing creative partnership between Maison Margiela and Reebok continues with a new collection of footwear. This time, the Club C and Classic Leather are re-interpreted through Maison Margiela’s signature concept known as the memory of.

Margiela creative director John Galliano takes motifs of memory and the past to deconstruct what we once knew as the Classic Leather and Club C. As Reebok states, “It is the visual recollection of an object or feeling that is no longer materially visible, but palpable through an outline or suggestion: the memory of something that once was.”

The Classic Leather is fitted with a premium leather upper featuring a removed cross-check that reveals the punch-holes that were left behind by the stitching. Incorporating a style described by Maison Margiela as decortiqué, a process where a piece is cut up to reveal the main structure, the silhouette is stripped back to the core elements leaving an exposed heel cap and inner lining.

The Reebok Club C also gets a similar makeover with frayed edges, exposed stitching perforations, and a Reebok logo slashed in half and integrated with that of Maison Margiela. Intricate details of pen markings can also be found referring to the shoemaker’s process of construction. Both styles are available in monochrome white and black colorways.

The Maison Margiela x Reebok Classic Leather and Club C “Memory Of” styles will be available on March 25th at select Maison Margiela stores and on the Maison Margiela and Reebok websites.
