Originally released in 1972, the Nike Cortez has kept a close relationship with the city of Los Angeles. Nike takes the all time classic and partners up with Nike athlete Maria Sharapova to release her own iteration of the famous silhouette.
Inspired by LA’s laid-back vibes and the earthy hues of a West Coast sunrise the Nike Cortez LA features layering of premium suedes and leathers, hinted with soft golden accents all atop a rubber outsole. Playing off of Sharapova’s childhood interest in calligraphy, the insole features a golden signature along with the Cortez name, giving an elegant off-court shoe for the sneaker enthusiast and fashion lover alike.
“I love how it’s minimal and understated in certain ways, yet there’s so much attention to detail with the finishes, materials and even color,” says Sharapova. “I was inspired by my morning walks along the coast on my way to practice, and I think we captured that peaceful essence in this shoe.”
