After a few years in hiatus, My Chemical Romance is back with new music and tour dates. To celebrate the return of the ’00s-era emo powerhouse, MARKET and MCR are launching a collaborative 4-piece capsule collection.
The cult LA-based streetwear brand pays homage to MCR’s influential tracks “Vampires Will Never Hurt You” and “The Black Parade” with the embroidered brushed cardigan, the hero piece from the capsule. MARKET also offers a graphic tee that highlights MARKET’s longtime partner SMILEY, adorning the yellow smiley face with Gerard Way-like red hair and red tie. Rounding out the capsule is an “I Grew Up Listening to My Chemical Romance” hoodie and embroidered corduroy hat.
“I grew up in the middle of nowhere and My Chemical Romance was the first group that showed me I didn’t need to be like everyone else around me,” says Malachi Shockley, Director of Merchandising at MARKET. “As a teenager, I wanted to rebel, I wanted to do things differently, and MCR was a beacon of light showing me the way. From the lyrics to their outfits, they showed me that I could be different and still build a community of like minded people around me. I wasn’t alone with these guys in my headphones. We wanted to share that same energy and spirit through this collection – reminding people that they can change their perspectives and honor their full creative selves.”
