Following the release of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy video game last October, Square Enix and Marvel team up with adidas on a footwear collection that celebrates the intergalactic superhero team.
The team’s leader, Star Lord, is highlighted with two variations of the classic adidas Forum. Much like his taste of vintage pop-rock, the adidas Forum delivers the iconic retro aesthetic and executes it in High and Mid styles. The Star Lord-inspired Forum Highs feature an off-white upper and royal blue colorway. The silhouette retains much of the vintage feel keeping a lot of the original color blocking from the classic collegiate blue model. However, the most notable variation from the original is the Star Lord tag on the medial side of the ankle with a skull design separating the letters. For the finishing touch, adidas stamps the Guardians of the Galaxy insignia onto the tongue tab.
For Star Lord’s second installment, adidas delivers a Forum Mid inspired by the red leather jacket that Peter Quill is known for. With the trademark Star Lord-red as the upper, the Forum Mid takes on a bold approach with a zip-up lacing system with the Guardians logo on a punchy green tongue tag.
adidas pairs Gamora with the ZX 2K BOOST 2.0. With the sneaker’s natural sleek shape and contrast of red, white, and silver the silhouette does a good job of embodying the daughter of Thanos, as they were inspired by her armor and appearance.
The adidas Ozelia takes inspiration from Drax’s most distinguishing characteristic, his tattoos. The lining pattern of red on top of a unique blue-green hue resembles Drax from the video game. With touches of metallic silver representing the blades that he wields rounds out the upper on a black adiPRENE outsole.
Being the tree-like colossus Groot is, the NMD_R1 is transformed into an outdoor-friendly variation. Not only does it sport the sandy khaki upper but also is outfitted with a Continental trail outsole to support the foot. They add a nice touch of text on the pull tab reading out “I AM GROOT” in an alien language that is featured in the video game.
Last but not least, the weapons expert, Rocket Racoon gets a flashy new colorway for the adidas ZX 1K BOOST. The sneaker features a black upper with red and yellow accents that sit on top of a red BOOST outsole. Being the master tactician that Rocket is, the silhouette includes a speed lacing system along with high-vis reflective elements based on his weaponry.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Forum Hi, Forum Mid, Ozelia, and ZX 1K release on February 27th, with select styles available now via Exclusive Access to select members. The ZX 2K is set to release on April 14, while the NMD_R1 TR drops on April 18. Available at adidas.com and select retailers.
