Sneaker alternatives such as slides, mules, and clogs have become increasingly popular in today’s “streetwear” footwear landscape. There’s hyped silhouettes like the YEEZY Slide, Foam Runner, and Salehe Bembury Crocs Pollex, then there’s funky experimental options like the A-C-W* Converse Sponge Crater and the Jordan System.23. The latest entry in this space is a new sandal silhouette from Matthew M Williams and Nike.
Williams has revealed a MMW x Nike sandal ahead of his Alyx Spring/Summer 2023 runway show. It features foam construction and comes in all black, with dozens of circular perforations across the top and footbed. There are also large cut outs on the sides for more ventilation. Branding is keep to a minimum, with a small Swoosh and “MMW” found on the top of the sandal, plus another Swoosh on the heel-end of the outsole.
