Original Story (05/21/21): Ghanaian-born fashion designer Mimi Plange is naturally drawn to the idea of modern American luxury sportswear. Her admiration is extending to the Nike LeBron 18 Low “Higher Learning,” which earns the title as her first sneaker design.
The sneaker comes inspired by letterman jackets. A conjunction between sports and school, the homage displays an eccentric expression of color and design. Taking on Mustard, Burgundy, Pink and Crimson, this “Higher Learning” colorway is part of a larger project centered around varsity style in American history. Patches are found on the heel and medial in the form of an “A” for Akron, a basketball and hoop, and an aggressive feline motif. A minty green covers the laces to tie the construction together, matching with the hit on the midsole. Through her first sneaker release, Plange emphasizes how sports and education can meet in the middle to make a difference.
The Mimi Plange x Nike Lebron 18 Low “Higher Learning” will release on May 23rd, making it this month’s #LeBronWatch release (at least in Korea), following up last month’s atmos collab on the model. Check out official pics of this release below.
