Mountain Research & Reebok Drop “Stealth Black” Alien Stomper

In the mid ’80s, Reebok was enlisted by James Cameron’s action/sci-fi masterpiece Aliens  to create special footwear for the film. The result was the Alien Stomper, a high-top model worn by Sigourney Weaver’s Ellen Ripley, as well as in mid-top form by Lance Henriksen’s Bishop.

Reebok first released the Alien Stomper to the public in 2016, 30 years after the film hit theaters. Since then, the Alien Stomper has been reworked by Reebok for collabs with other films, creating the “Ghost Smashers” for Ghostbusters and the “Jurassic Stomper” for Jurassic Park.

Mountain Research, the Japanese label by designer Kobayashi Setsumasa, has also put its twist on the silhouette. After releasing a white colorway in 2020, Mountain Research and Reebok reconnect for a stealthy black version of the Alien Stomper. The silhouette has been redesigned so that the ankle strap is now removable. Instructions printed on this ankle strap read “Keep In A Safe Place When Removing” and “Fold And Turn Over After Going Thru Eyelet.” The forefoot strap also comes with instructions, reading “Keep Strapped To Hold Firmly.” Other features include “Never Been To The Moon” printed on the heels, Mountain Research logos on the tongue tag, and Mountain Research’s signature slogan hidden on the tongue tag: “civil disobedience anarchists mountaineers saunterer + punks.”

The Mountain Research x Reebok Alien Stomper “Stealth Black” saw its initial launch on March 1st on the Mountain Research online store, though has since sold out. A global launch is set for March 15th, available on Reebok.com and at select retailers.
