After re-introducing the model with a collaboration with Aimé Leon Dore, New Balance announced the general release of the 550 silhouette, starting with the red and blue colorways that launched today in select markets worldwide.

Over a dozen new colorways of the 550 have now been revealed, presumably releasing throughout the new year. The low-top basketball model, originally introduced in 1989, sees classic color schemes such as the black and red “Bred” and black and grey “Shadow,” as well as colorways that pay homage to NBA and college teams like the Sonics, Clippers, UNC, Bulls, and Pacers.

Also recently revealed is a vintage version of the model known as the BB550 1989. Continuing with the retro theme, this version is made to look as if it was created in 1989, with vintage-inspired details such as a yellowed tongue and a peeling effect on the “N” logo.

Grab a preview of upcoming New Balance 550 colorways below. Expect these to roll out in early 2021 via newbalance.com/basketball and select retailers.
