Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have revealed a bunch of details about the next game in the franchise, Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, in their latest Pokémon Direct presentation.

Your character in Pokémon Sword and Shield will journey through the new, U.K.-inspired Galar region, filled with new and familiar Pokémon. Start your journey off with Grookey, Scorbunny, or Sobble, and discover new Pokémon exclusive to the Galar region, such as Wooloo, the Sheep Pokémon, and Drednaw, the Bite Pokémon.

Nintendo also revealed the legendary mascots that are featured on the packages of Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield: Zacian and Zazamenta.

The Galar region features an open-world biome known as the Wild Area. The Wild Area is full of nature and connects several different towns and cities in the region. You’ll find a greater variety of Pokémon living here than anywhere else in the Galar region. The Pokémon you’ll run into will change depending on things like the weather or location.

Last but not least, we’re introduced to a new ability called Dynamax. Dynamax is a phenomenon where Pokémon are able to take on gigantic appearances and gain a boost in power for three turns. Each Gym in the Galar region has been supersized to allow for Dynamax battling.

Dynamax Pokémon can also be found in the Wild Area and can be captured in what is called a Max Raid Battle. Max Raid Battles are a new battle format where you can team up with three other Trainers in order to defeat and capture a wild Dynamax Pokémon.

You can watch the entire Pokémon Direct below. Additional info can also be found on the Pokémon website. Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield is set to release on November 15th, 2019 on the Nintendo Switch.
