Original Story (12/06/21): The Nike Air Force 1 will be celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2022. The Bruce Kilgore-designed model was first introduced in 1982 as the first Nike basketball shoe to feature Air technology and has since become an internationally adored street icon. Nike will undoubtedly be bringing back classic AF1 colorways for the celebration, and it appears that one of them will be the Air Force 1 Mid CL “Independence Day.”

The Air Force 1 Mid “Independence Day” originally released in 1997 and came in a patriotic white, red, and blue color scheme. It featured a white leather upper paired with blue pearlized leather for the overlays and strap. Red is incorporated on the branding, including the jewel Swoosh on the side panels, the Swoosh on the strap, and the Nike Air on the tongue tag and heel. Rounding out the design is a white midsole atop a translucent outsole. The design of the 2022 retro stays true to the OG release.
