Nike Air Force 1 Mid “Culture Day” Celebrates the Ueno Panda

0

Nike is celebrating the history of Japanese sneaker history with special “Culture Day” releases that includes an Air Force 1 Mid and Dunk High. Both of these styles are inspired by the sneaker communities and unique styles of districts such as Ueno, Shibuya, and Harajuku.

Focusing on the Air Force 1 Mid, this “Culture Day” drop draws inspiration from pandas, like the ones found at the Ueno Zoo. The fluffy white paneling of the upper is paired with black suede overlays to mimic the fur of a panda. Additionally, the insoles and icy blue outsoles feature a collage of graphics that celebrate the history of Japan and the Air Force 1, with a panda and a basketball front and center. Another interesting detail is the mismatching Swooshes on the side panels: a black leather Swoosh on the lateral and a jewel Swoosh on the medial.

Nike released a similar Dunk High back in 2008 as part of a four-piece “Japan Pack,” which this Air Force 1 is an obvious nod to. The Dunk High was followed by a GS “Ueno Panda” Dunk Low in 2015. Culture Day itself is a Japanese national holiday that celebrates the culture, academia, and arts of Japan.

A release for the Nike Air Force 1 Mid “Culture Day” (aka “Panda”) has been partially revealed by Nike, as they are loaded on SNKRS Korea with an April 27th release date. Stay tuned for any updates on a wider release and check out the official images below in the meantime.
