Original Story (11/03/20): After originally releasing in 1996 and last making its return in 2016, the OG Nike Air Griffey Max 1 “Freshwater” colorway is set to make a comeback next year in celebration of the model’s 25th anniversary.

The iconic baseball player Ken “The Kid” Griffey Jr made the Air Griffey Max 1 famous as it was the ideal everyday cross trainer-style version of cleats that he wore on the diamond. The shoe originally released in three colorways: a white-based “Freshwater,” a teal-based “Freshwater” (aka “Emerald”), and “Varsity Royal.” While the “Emerald” colorway recently made a return on the “Griffey” SB Dunk Mid, the white “Freshwater” is the version that will be making its return. This offering features a black nubuck and white leather base and a strap with the number “24” wraps across the ankle to keep the foot secure. The shoe also uses a bootie construction for a snug fit. Red and aqua accents act as as a nod to Griffey’s Seattle Mariners.

As of now there is no exact release date, but the arrival of the official Nike images could suggest that they would drop sooner than later. Keep it locked to Modern Notoriety for story updates on this release.
