Original Story (03/26/21): Following the return of the OG “Freshwater” and the impending return of the OG “Varsity Blue”, Ken Griffey Jr.’s signature Nike Air Griffey Max 1 silhouette receives an addition that honors the legacy of baseball legend, Jackie Robinson, the first African American to play in the MLB.
The tribute pair comes in a black and white color scheme, featuring two of Robinson’s famous quotes embossed on the ankle straps: “There’s not an American in this country free until every one of us is free” and “”A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives.” Further enhancing his spirit in the shoes, Robinson’s #42 has also replaced Griffey Jr.’s signature #24 on both the ankle and footbed.
An official release date has not yet been announced for the Nike Air Griffey Max 1 “Jackie Robinson,” however, the pair is speculated to arrive around Jackie Robinson Day, observed on April 15th. Stay tuned to Modern Notoriety for more updates.
