Nike Confirms Return of the ’86 “Big Bubble” Air Max 1

Original Story (12/28/21): The birth of Air Max is commonly attributed to the debut of the Air Max 1 on March 26, 1987. While technically true, the Air Max 1 actually went into production in 1986. These early pairs featured a much larger visible Air unit than the ’87 version. The area around this larger Air bubble was prone to cracking, so Nike scaled it down in future runs.

Reports now indicate that Nike will be bringing back the Air Max 1 OG “Big Bubble” (aka “Big Window”) for a proper retro run. Early rumors of these coming out had these scheduled for 2022, but it appears that with delays, these are now set for a 2023 release. Expect these to drop in the OG colorway that went into production in 1986, with white mesh, grey and red suede making up the upper, and underfoot a sole unit with a bigger, longer visible Air unit.

Look for the Nike Air Max 1 OG “Big Bubble” to launch sometime in 2023 on SNKRS and at select retailers. Stay tuned to Modern Notoriety for updates.
