Last year, Nike Basketball introduced its Air Zoom Greater Than (G.T.) Series, comprised of three new silhouettes designed to help athletes create space by focusing on the most important movements of the game — running, jumping, and cutting. These silhouettes were aptly named the G.T. Cut, G.T. Run, and G.T. Jump. Nike is now introducing the second generation of the G.T. Cut, the G.T. Cut 2.
The G.T. Cut 2 features an updated traction design with grooves that separate and snap back to help players quickly make cuts on the court. Other updates include a refined heel counter, a carved-out midsole to reduce the weight of the shoe, and a heel Zoom Air unit. Returning features include the full-length articulated Zoom Air strobel unit and the drop-in React foam sockliner. The low-to-the-ground design also helps minimize court contact while switching direction.
“The G.T. Series is completely untethered from traditional ways of thinking,” says Ross Klein, senior creative director of Nike Performance Footwear. “The traction pattern is one of those elements that was generated at a micro-level insight from the Nike Sport Research Lab after studying the relationship between court and shoe. The teams were able to drive a new innovation that gives the athletes the right amount of friction on court so they can cut faster, rotate quicker and adjust their footwork with enhanced precision.”
The Nike Air Zoom G.T. 2 will make its debut in a “Bred” colorway, dropping on Nike.com on Friday, September 16th, followed by a release at select retailers on September 20th. WNBA All-Star Sabrina Ionescu will also be getting her own colorway, dropping on October 13th. Check out both pairs below.
