Nike Unveils 2020 BeTrue and Converse Pride Collection

1

Nike and Converse have officially unveiled images of their 2020 BeTrue collection that celebrates Pride Month. While the brands have released BeTrue collections annually for years now, Nike has multiple newcomers to the BeTrue line: the Air Force 1, the Air Max 2090, and the ACG Air Deschutz sandal.

The BeTrue AF1 is inspired by NYC’s ballroom scene in the mid-80’s (widely considered to be pivotal in the development of modern gay culture) and uses the More Color More Pride flag, an initiative started in 2017 to more visibly recognize people of color within the LGBTQIA+ community. The Air Max 2090, on the other hand, is inspired by pride parades and features asymmetrical rainbow color blocking. Finally, the Air Deschutz utilizes colorful strap detailing and sports a new zip pocket on its heel bearing the pride flag and Nike branding.

Converse, on the other hand, is releasing a wide variety of colorways of its signature Chuck 70 and All Star models. While some models feature sequined detailing seen in previous Pride iterations of the shoes, many feature the More Colors More Pride flag and rainbow detailing both bold and subtle. Additionally, the brand’s Converse By You platform will offer customers options to customize models that reflect specific flags for the bisexual, pansexual, non-binary, and transgender communities.

Both brands have committed to donating to LGBTQIA+ organizations in honor of Pride Month with Nike’s charity efforts going towards 20+ primarily sport-focused causes and Converse’s going to foundations like IGBP, the Ali Forney Center, BAGLY, and OUT MetroWest.

While Converse’s BeTrue models drop on May 29th at converse.com, look out for the Nike BeTrue collection to release on June 5th in Greater China and June 19th globally at Nike.com.
