Original Story (11/13/21): Although Día de los Muertos is celebrated on the first couple days of November, Nike is now rolling out the second half of its “Siempre Familia” collection in honor of the Mexican holiday. Likely delayed due to global shipping issues, the second half of the collection consists of the previously previewed Dunk Low and a newly unveiled women’s Air Max 90.

This year’s Day of the Dead collection draws inspiration from Mictlán, the nine levels of the underworld that souls must trek through in the afterlife according to Mexica culture. The departed are guided by animal companions through this journey, including a giant iguana called Xochitónal, which is the inspiration for the for the Dunk Low. There is also a Xoloitzcuintle that helps you cross the great Apanohuaya river, but only if you were kind to dogs in your lifetime. The Xolo inspires the hairy texture of the Air Max 90, which also features a skeletal design on the toe box and across the back of the heel.

The Nike Dunk Low and Air Max 90 “Siempre Familia” releases on November 17th on SNKRS Mexico. Check out both pairs below.
