In the midst of a world with no sports, Nike has kept the releases ongoing to keep spirits high. The latest development is the new Zoom KD 13, a style that boasts Kevin Durant’s impressive breakthroughs in basketball.
The KD 13 might seem similar to its predecessor, the KD 12, in that it features a double-stacked Zoom on the heel. This time around, however, the technology is moved up to the forefoot with a second kidney-shaped Zoom unit under the doubled-up Zoom strobel. The technology assists in movement off the ball of the foot, intended to mimic a mechanical spring that returns the energy you put into it. Following the spring theory in the KD 13, the double-stacked forefoot Zoom allows you more travel in the system and returned energy.
The “Hype” and “Chill” colorways will feature a Versace-style print and green/soft pink/yellow overlay style, respectively. These special colorways are a nod to Durant’s favorite music playlists. The shoe will also be releasing in a few other colorways, including “Black/White,” “Planet of Hoops,” “Home Team,” and “Bred.” The KD 13’s Swoosh is placed lower on the silhouette, dropping into the midsole. Inspiration from Durant comes in the form of his new #7 which is visible on the forefoot and overlaid wings that had support but not weight, a preference personal to KD.
The Nike KD 13 will begin its retail release on April 6th with “Black/White” and “Planet of Hoops,” with the second being an exclusive China release. “Hype” will be available in North America on April 10th, followed by “Black/White” on April 17th. “Chill” is available April 24th. Last but not least, “Home Team” and “Bred” will see a global release on May 1st and June 1st, respectively.
