Following Nike’s announcement of its MLB City Connect Series for the 2021 season and the reveal of its Boston Red Sox City Connect jersey, the Swoosh is now unveiling the second jersey in the series – the Miami Marlins.

The Miami Marlins City Connect jersey is an ode to Latin America’s contribution to baseball’s rich history. It comes dressed in red as a tribute to the energetic vibe and culture of Latin American nations, with “Miami” written across the chest in the hand-painted style of the city’s Little Havana neighborhood.

The jersey also pays homage to the 1959 Havana Sugar Kings’ Junior World Series championship, which opened the door for future Latin American baseball players in the majors. A redesigned Sugar Kings’ patch appears on the right sleeve, while “Sugar Kings” embroidery is found above the jock tag. Given Miami’s large Cuban community, the Sugar Kings are an important part of Miami’s history. The city even renamed Miami Stadium, home field of the Miami Marlins minor league team, to Bobby Maduro Miami Stadium in 1987, paying tribute to the owner of the Sugar Kings.

Check out the 2021 Nike MLB Miami Marlins City Connect Jersey below ahead of its on-field debut on May 21st. The jersey and accompanying fan gear are available now on the MLB Shop and the Nike webstore and app. Stay tuned to Modern Notoriety as the rest of the 2021 MLB City Connect jerseys are unveiled: Chicago White Sox, Chicago Cubs, Arizona Diamondbacks, San Francisco Giants, and Los Angeles Dodgers.
