Original Story (10/01/20): While Nike is poised to release some Halloween-themed shoes this year, they also made sure to incorporate a collection of kicks to celebrate the Mexican holiday of Día De Los Muertos, aka Day of the Dead.

This collection is titled “Para Mi Familia,” which translates to “For My Family,” which is fitting as the holiday is meant to honor and celebrate the life of those in your family that have passed away. These kicks come in a purple and gold color scheme, the same colors traditionally used in decorations and altars, as purple signifies pain, suffering, grief and mourning, while gold is the color of the Cempazuchitl, marigolds that symbolize death. Petals of these flowers are used to make a trail so that the spirits can see the path to their altars. The details on the tongues and insoles are in the style of “papel picado,” a Mexican form of decorative craft made by cutting up tissue paper into elaborate designs.
