Nike SB Readies a “Chinese New Year” Dunk Low

1

Nike SB is set to drop a Chinese New Year Dunk Low to celebrate the Year of the Ox beginning in early 2021.

The colorway is set to be a wild, asymmetric offering with mismatched silver and textured brown Swooshes atop multicolor paneling, with each medial panel coming in a completely different material. The right shoe sees a finger-paint, watercolor style patterning on its overlays, a metallic bronze toebox, and a stippled orange panel in the middle. The left, on the other hand, uses a clay-like brown swoosh above white and yellow patterned toebox overlays, a cracked-earth middle panel, and a heel/wing panel that uses concentric circles and green flecks (possibly scallions) as patterning below an embroidered Chinese coin.

Each shoe’s heel features the Chinese character 食(shí) which can mean “food” or “to eat,” lending credibility to the idea that the shoe’s concept could surround food. Family meals are an important part of Chinese New Year celebrations across the world, so it’d be a natural choice for the model’s inspiration.
