Nike Sportswear’s “Flora” Footwear Pack Unveiled

In a tribute to botanical studies, Nike Sportswear is releasing a collection of footwear that each feature a native plant. The plants — cork, indigo, and pomegranate — were possibly chosen for their application to the creation of the shoes themselves, as indigo and pomegranate can be used in the dyeing process and cork material can be used for the shoe’s construction. Four styles have been revealed (so far), three Blazer Mid ’77s and an Air Max 90.

A beloved silhouette, the Air Max 90 addition to the “Flora” pack nods to the cork oak plant. A cream canvas upper features contrast stitching while following a Coconut Milk, Wheat, and Obsidian color scheme. The inner lining makes use of solid Navy Blue while contrasting the Volt insoles. Cork swooshes can be found on the lateral sides, while the plant itself is stitched on the tongue with a white midsole and Dark Cinder heels and outsole.

The first of the Blazer Mid ’77 triplets is a “Pomegranate” colorway. Cultivated in a Solar Flare, black and white palette, the canvas upper gives way to a beige Swoosh and heel overlays. The whole ensemble sits atop a dark brown outsole and a white midsole that pairs with the laces. An eye-catching pomegranate fruit is displayed on the lateral, cutting through the Swoosh, while its corresponding scientific name and facts are found on the heel.

Second in the family line is the Blazer Mid ’77 in “Obsidian Indigo.” This offering comes dressed in Obsidian, white and black. The white canvas upper provides a satisfying base for the Indigo Swoosh and heel. The shoe sits on a Dark Cinder outsole and white midsole, met with Caramel suede overlays on the forefoot, heel and tongue. The plant of choice is the Indigofera Tinctoria, or True Indigo, displayed in careful floral embroidery with its scientific name on the heel.

A similar Blazer Mid ’77 “Obsidian” colorway comes in a Light Blue alternative. The dark upper is swapped for a white canvas one with Light Blue Swoosh and heel overlays. Cork can be found on the heel, laces and tongue, while the embroidered Indigofera Tinctoria plant coordinates with its scientific name. The same Dark Cinder outsole and white midsole complete the design.

There’s no official release date yet for the Nike “Flora” Pack yet, but each shoe will likely drop at select retailers and the Nike webstore. Stay tuned to Modern Notoriety for release info and catch photos below.
